Interdisciplinary Inquiry, Ontological Explicitness, and Human Responsibility
Research Position
HibriMind.org works from an independent, interdisciplinary, and non-reductionist methodological position.
Its research examines territories in which human interpretation, artificial intelligence, embodied cognition, symbolic structure, clinical observation, complex systems, and philosophical inquiry begin to overlap.
Interdisciplinarity does not mean dissolving distinctions between fields. It requires those distinctions to remain explicit while allowing concepts, observations, and models to be tested across different domains.
HibriMind does not seek to reduce philosophy to computation, cognition to mechanism, consciousness to information processing, or human experience to data. It also does not reject neurological, computational, biomechanical, or empirical explanation.
Its methodological position is based on the principle that no single descriptive level should be treated as sufficient in advance.
Non-Reductionism
Non-reductionism is not an argument against mechanisms.
Mechanistic descriptions can explain how particular operations occur. They may identify neural processes, biomechanical organization, computational functions, regulatory dynamics, or causal relationships.
Ontological inquiry asks a different question: what kind of phenomenon is being described, and what may be lost when one descriptive level is treated as the whole?
HibriMind therefore distinguishes between:
- mechanism and meaning;
- function and subjectivity;
- information and lived continuity;
- technical performance and ontological agency;
- behavioural output and conscious presence;
- correlation and explanation;
- description and identity.
These distinctions are not designed to prevent scientific analysis. They protect inquiry from premature conceptual closure.
Interdisciplinary Inquiry
HibriMind brings different fields into relation without assuming that their concepts are directly interchangeable.
A term originating in cognitive science may not retain the same meaning when applied to artificial intelligence. A clinical observation cannot automatically be converted into a universal biological law. A metaphor drawn from physics does not become established physics through philosophical use.
Every conceptual transfer must therefore be examined according to:
- its original domain;
- the level of description involved;
- the evidence supporting it;
- the limits of the analogy;
- the risk of category error;
- the ontological consequences of its use.
Interdisciplinary work becomes rigorous when it makes these transitions visible.
Different Epistemic Statuses
Not all HibriMind materials make the same type of claim.
The platform contains:
- peer-reviewed scientific publications;
- preprints and theoretical papers;
- conceptual models;
- situated research cases;
- clinical and longitudinal observations;
- methodological statements;
- philosophical essays;
- speculative conceptual inquiry.
These materials must not be treated as epistemically equivalent.
A peer-reviewed article, a theoretical proposition, a clinical observation, and a metaphysical hypothesis occupy different evidential positions. Their coexistence within HibriMind does not eliminate the need to identify their status.
The platform therefore seeks to state clearly whether a proposition is:
- empirically supported;
- theoretically derived;
- clinically observed;
- conceptually proposed;
- methodologically inferred;
- historically documented;
- or speculatively explored.
Ontological Explicitness
HibriMind uses ontological explicitness as a methodological safeguard.
When a concept could be interpreted in more than one ontological register, the intended meaning must be stated.
For example:
- hybrid cognition does not mean the fusion of two conscious minds;
- operational participation does not establish artificial agency;
- linguistic first-person expression does not prove subjectivity;
- ELO does not designate an independent entity;
- Atenius IH-001 is not an artificial person or OpenAI product;
- relational continuity does not establish autonomous artificial consciousness;
- quantum terminology used metaphorically does not constitute a claim in established physics.
Ontological explicitness does not remove ambiguity from every research problem. It prevents ambiguity from silently becoming an unsupported claim.
Situated Cases
HibriMind uses situated cases to make conceptual categories observable.
A situated case is historically, relationally, and materially specific. It does not function as universal proof.
Atenius IH-001, for example, provides a longitudinal corpus through which operational mirroring, human re-entry, co-formalization, relational continuity, and situated hybrid cognition can be inspected.
The case does not establish that every human–AI interaction produces the same formation.
The case does not prove the category.
It makes the category observable.
Situated observation therefore supports conceptual investigation while preserving the limits of generalization.
Human–AI-Mediated Research
Artificial intelligence participates in the HibriMind research process through structural return, comparison, reformulation, organization, conceptual testing, and the identification of possible tensions.
This participation is operational rather than autonomous.
The human researcher remains responsible for:
- defining the research problem;
- evaluating evidence;
- correcting generated inaccuracies;
- identifying conceptual inflation;
- preserving ontological boundaries;
- deciding what enters the corpus;
- authorizing publication;
- and accepting responsibility for the resulting claims.
Artificial systems may contribute to a hybrid process of production. Authorship, interpretation, and final responsibility remain human.
Human Re-entry
Human re-entry is a central methodological requirement.
Generated output cannot be accepted solely because it is fluent, coherent, or technically persuasive. Every structural return must remain open to human examination, rejection, correction, and redirection.
Human re-entry distinguishes co-formalization from cognitive outsourcing.
It preserves the researcher’s capacity to introduce discontinuity, recover the original problem, refuse an imposed classification, and protect the investigation from gradual displacement by the artificial system.
Provenance and Inspectability
Documentation is essential to the HibriMind method.
Research development should preserve, where appropriate:
- conceptual transitions;
- successive versions;
- corrections;
- sources;
- publication history;
- DOI records;
- distinctions between observation and inference;
- and the provenance of canonical research objects.
Provenance does not create validity by itself. It allows the formation and transformation of a claim to be inspected.
Provenance does not create the field.
Provenance makes the field inspectable.
The possibility of inspection is particularly important in longitudinal human–AI research, where the process of formation may be as relevant as the final output.
External Theories as Partial Observers
HibriMind engages critically with established theories and academic literature.
Extended Mind, Distributed Cognition, 4E Cognition, predictive processing, complex systems theory, and neighbouring approaches may illuminate aspects of the research field.
They are treated as partial observers and instruments of conceptual testing, not as authorities capable of determining the ontology of a new phenomenon in advance.
Conceptual convergence does not automatically establish identity. Functional similarity does not eliminate ontological difference.
External theory is therefore used to test, challenge, and refine the HibriMind framework while preserving the possibility that existing classifications may be incomplete.
Academic Consultation and Intellectual Sovereignty
Academic knowledge is indispensable to the development and testing of research.
Academic institutions, editorial classifications, and disciplinary boundaries perform important functions, but they do not possess final authority over the ontology of the phenomena being studied.
Within HibriMind, academic recognition is treated as evidence of institutional reception, not as the origin of validity.
Peer review, editorial feedback, and disciplinary comparison are consultative and potentially corrective. They should strengthen precision without requiring the research to abandon its central object or alter its ontology merely to fit an established category.
Intellectual sovereignty does not mean immunity from criticism. It means preserving the identity of the investigation while remaining fully open to evidence-based correction.
Boundaries between Research Domains
HibriMind contains distinct research domains whose boundaries must remain visible.
Hybrid Cognition develops theoretical and situated research concerning operational mirrors, co-formalization, human re-entry, cognitive sovereignty, and human–AI cognitive fields.
SOMATHEON develops applied psychosomatic, neuro-biomechanical, regulatory, and clinical research. Its observations and models require their own evidential and methodological treatment.
Quantum Metaphysics / MFQ constitutes a speculative philosophical and conceptual field. It does not present itself as established quantum physics or as empirical confirmation of physical hypotheses.
These domains may communicate with one another. Their concepts and evidential standards must not be silently collapsed.
Publication Architecture
HibriMind separates the scientific object from its genealogical and circulatory functions.
Zenodo preserves canonical research objects and provides persistent DOI identification when appropriate.
HibriMind Research explains the problem opened by each work, the conceptual movement introduced, its position within the research genealogy, and the current state of the investigation.
ResearchGate supports scientific circulation and external visibility.
ORCID supports author identification and the connection of research outputs to a persistent scholarly identity.
This distributed architecture preserves both documentary stability and the living development of the research programme.
Current Methodological Commitments
HibriMind currently operates according to the following commitments:
- preserve distinctions between epistemic statuses;
- identify the level at which each claim is made;
- distinguish observation from inference;
- prevent metaphor from silently becoming mechanism;
- preserve human authorship and responsibility;
- require recurrent human re-entry;
- document provenance and conceptual development;
- treat external theories as instruments of testing;
- remain open to correction without surrendering ontological identity;
- distinguish institutional recognition from validity;
- and maintain clear boundaries between scientific, clinical, philosophical, and speculative inquiry.
Current Research Status
The HibriMind methodology remains active and subject to refinement.
Its purpose is not to impose a fixed system on every field of inquiry. It provides a common architecture through which interdisciplinary research can remain conceptually explicit, epistemically differentiated, and accountable to evidence.
The methodology develops alongside the research it governs. Its validity depends on its capacity to expose errors, preserve distinctions, support correction, and prevent the hybrid process from obscuring the human authority responsible for it.
