VIVENS investigates whether consciousness can be understood as the first-person mode of organismal integration, and how organism-level states become causally effective across the living whole. It connects consciousness, multiscale causation, cellular autonomy and biological history while preserving explicit boundaries between empirical evidence, mechanistic reconstruction and ontological inference.

What happens when a biological response outlives the event that produced it? VIVENS proposes that organismic identity may sustain a post-event physiological regime until adaptation becomes cellular memory, progressively reducing the cell’s capacity to return.
