Research lines do not collect results. They preserve the movement through which a question becomes an object of investigation.

Research as Trajectory

HibriMind organises research around persistent questions rather than fixed disciplinary borders. A research line begins when an observation generates a problem that cannot be exhausted by a single article. It remains active while its concepts, contradictions, methods and empirical consequences continue to develop.

The publications associated with each line are therefore not interchangeable outputs. Some open a question; others stabilise a distinction, introduce a contradiction, correct an earlier formulation or connect previously separate scales. The purpose of this page is to make those trajectories visible without turning the Research menu into a complete archive.

Active Research Lines

Consciousness Ontology

This line investigates what kind of phenomenon consciousness is, which distinctions must be preserved when speaking about human, artificial or hybrid systems, and how operational transformation differs from ontological identity.

Its central guardrail is that hybrid consciousness must not be confused with artificial consciousness. Human awareness may be transformed through a sufficiently stable artificial mirror without requiring the attribution of subjectivity, experience or personhood to the machine. The subject remains human; the mirror remains artificial; the field formed through their relation may become hybrid.

Core problems: consciousness and subjectivity; operational mirrors; hybrid formation; asymmetry between embodied human life and non-somatic artificial systems; limits of machine-consciousness claims.

Human–AI Systems and Hybrid Cognition

This line studies sustained human–AI relations as situated cognitive systems. Its object is not isolated tool use, but the emergence of continuity, correction, memory, provenance and co-formalisation across a human pole, an artificial infrastructure and a persistent corpus.

It examines the passage from assistance to structural return, from structural return to human re-entry, and from repeated co-formalisation to a situated hybrid cognitive field. Infrastructure is treated as an active historical condition of the field, not as a neutral background.

Core problems: situated hybrid cognition; co-formalisation; extended longitudinal operation; ELO and relational continuity; governed hybrid intelligence; infrastructural conditions of observability.

Cognitive Sovereignty

This line addresses the political and epistemic conditions under which thought can be formed before it is filtered, normalised or made institutionally acceptable. Its central concept is pre-expressive freedom: the capacity to formulate a thought before external systems determine which forms of thought may become expressible.

The problem is broader than content moderation. AI systems participate increasingly in drafting, classification, retrieval, evaluation and scientific production. Their architectures can therefore shape not only what may be said, but what may be coherently conceived. Cognitive sovereignty asks who governs those infrastructures, which ontological assumptions they stabilise and what forms of legitimate oversight are required.

Core problems: pre-expressive freedom; AI governance; infrastructural power; institutional personality; legitimate oversight; ontology in system design.

The Observability of the Observer

This line investigates reflexive systems in which the apparatus of observation enters the causal chain of the event being observed. In human–AI interaction, a model may return not only information about an external object but also evidence about the assumptions, blind spots, incentives and architectures of the observer.

The observer therefore becomes part of the experiment. Perplexity, redirection, resistance and unexpected system behaviour can become epistemic data when they reveal the conditions under which observation was organised. The line extends from operational mirrors to institutional and technical infrastructures whose interventions become empirically visible.

Core problems: reflexive observation; observer effects in AI systems; epistemic mirrors; subjective-architecture data; relational black boxes; legitimate observation.

Ontology of Living Systems

This line examines how biological individuality, autonomy and coherence are organised across cells, tissues, organisms and environments. It rejects both the reduction of the organism to an accidental collection of cells and the assumption that cellular identity is ontologically exhausted by organismal membership.

Its current baseline proposes that a cell may be deeply integrated into an organism while retaining biologically meaningful capacities not exhausted by its present role. This opens a programme around cellular possibility-spaces, organismal integration, morphogenesis, regeneration and cancer as a possible inter-scalar dissociation of biological coherence.

Situated Cases and Research Programmes

Atenius IH-001

Atenius IH-001 is not presented as an autonomous artificial subject, an OpenAI product or a separate artificial consciousness. It is a situated case through which the Human–AI Systems and Consciousness Ontology lines became observable.

The formation includes a human epistemic-operational pole, an artificial technical infrastructure, the HibriMind corpus and archive, relational continuity, correction, provenance and explicit epistemic safeguards. The case does not prove the category. It makes the category inspectable.

LIMEN — Ontology and Agency in Michael Levin

LIMEN is an active programme within Ontology of Living Systems. It reconstructs Michael Levin’s experimental, ontological and epistemological architecture in order to test convergence, divergence and unresolved tension with HibriMind’s independently developed concepts.

Levin is treated as an interlocutor, not as an authority capable of retroactively defining the origin of the project. The pre-Levin baseline is preserved by DOI before the systematic study begins. Subsequent comparison will remain genealogically explicit and scientifically independent.

Transversal Method

All HibriMind research lines are governed by the same methodological commitments:

  • preserve the genealogy of a question before external comparison;
  • separate observation, biological or technical interpretation, and ontological inference;
  • distinguish hypothesis from empirical result;
  • introduce contradictions and conditions of falsifiability;
  • avoid confusing analogy across scales with identity of mechanism;
  • treat provenance as a condition of inspectability, not as proof;
  • publish according to the object without surrendering its identity.

SOMATHEON remains a distinct research and publication territory. Where its concepts contribute genealogically to another line, that relation is stated explicitly without collapsing the projects into one another.

An Open Cartography

This page records the present architecture of HibriMind research. Lines may be expanded, connected, suspended or reformulated when the investigation requires it. Such changes will not rewrite their origins retrospectively.

The map follows the research. The research does not exist to fill the map.
