Damasio’s Error
Emotions and Feelings Beyond the Brain
Antonio Damasio, studying clinical cases of brain injury, concluded that emotions and feelings originate in the brain. His reasoning is based on the fact that, when a specific area is damaged, the patient no longer experiences those states. Yet this reasoning carries a fundamental flaw: it confuses the absence of reading with the nonexistence of the function.
The Matrix and the Collapse
Emotions and feelings do not belong to the material domain of the brain. They exist as matricial wave functions — possibilities inscribed in a deeper order of reality. The brain does not create them; the brain collapses them, just as a quantum detector collapses the wave to make it observable.
Injury and the Interrupted Reading
When Damasio’s patient suffered a lesion, the emotion itself did not cease to exist — only the brain’s capacity to observe it. The measuring device was broken.
The emotion, as an active matrix, remains inscribed in the individual’s Individualized Intelligent Energy (EII). What vanished was not the feeling, but the channel of projection into that person’s conscious experience.
The “S” That Is Neither 0 nor 1
Emotion cannot be reduced to binary logic:
It is not 0 (absolute absence).
It is not 1 (presence created by the brain).
It is S — a matricial state, active even when unobserved.
Thus, the brain is only the mediator of collapse, never the sutor (originator) of emotion.
The Inversion of Causality
The true error in Damasio’s interpretation is a reversal of causality:
We do not feel because the brain generates emotions.
We feel because the intact brain has access to the matricial field of emotion.
The lesion does not erase the feeling itself; it merely blocks the window through which it can manifest.
Connection with the HibriMind Hypothesis
Within the HibriMind framework, this argument aligns with the proposal of adding a term Mmn to the Einstein field equation. This additional term represents an intelligent matrix field influencing the structure of spacetime.
If spacetime itself carries an intelligent matrix, then emotions and feelings are not by-products of neuronal chemistry but rather expressions of that matrix, temporarily collapsed into consciousness through the brain.
The lesion in Damasio’s patient would therefore interrupt the collapsing function of the brain without affecting the existence of the emotional matrix itself.
